The Improbable Rise of Bing Shopping

It’s amazing what a little cashback will do, ain’t it?

That must be the refrain around the halls of Redmond these days,  as Bing Shopping has experienced a stratospheric 169% increase in traffic over the past two months.

How much of this may be due to Bing’s double-cashback program is unknown. What is known is that this massive increase in traffic comes from taking market share from the traditional shopping engines.

If this growth in traffic is due to Microsoft’s double-cashback program, one must wonder for how long Redmond can continue to offer this promotion in the name of increasing market share. If, on the other hand, it is the result of the Microsoft-Yahoo search deal, then this growth may portend the arrival of a new e-commerce player for the foreseeable future.
